Stick it to the BNP - Keep Glasgow Nazi Free

Across the UK the British Nazi Party (BNP) vote has increased dramatically over the last two decades, to the point where they are now polling the highest votes ever for a fascist organisation in British history. They have achieved more success south of the border than in Scotland but we cannot afford to be complacent.

After their success in the European elections last year, flush with extra publicity and funds, Nick Griffin threatened to expand northwards. In the Glasgow North East by-election last November the fascists won 1,013 votes (4.92%), coming within just 19 votes of saving their deposit for the first time in Scotland. Unite Against Fascism’s campaign prevented a Nazi breakthrough by distributing over ten thousand leaflets exposing the true nature of the BNP to potential voters.

The BNP is now claiming to be standing 14 Nazi candidates across Scotland for the May 6th General Election. They hope to build local bases this year to contest the 2011 Scottish Parliament and local council elections. That means we must rise to the challenge to stop them.

Millions of ordinary people are suffering the consequences of the recession but we must not let the simplistic, thuggish and bigoted ideas of the BNP infect our political life. If we stand together we can defeat the BNP just as we defeated the National Front in the 1970s and the British Union of Fascists in the 1930s. Together let’s make sure that Scotland is a no-go area for Nazis.

Register to vote.
If people aren’t on the electoral register they can’t vote. Check at your local library or council offices. Voter registration forms are available from your local council or online at www.aboutmyvote.co.uk The completed form has to be returned to your local council. The final deadline for returning forms to register to ensure a vote in the General Elections is Tuesday 20 April.

Vote!
A low turn out means the BNP need fewer votes to be successful.

Pass on the message:
Forward this email and encourage families and friends to vote in the General Election – tell them that a vote for the BNP is a vote for the politics of hate, and against freedom, equality and tolerance.

Turn out and campaign:
The crucial thing for all anti-fascists in the next few weeks til May 6th is to spread the message and expose the Nazi BNP. Get involved in the following days of action or contact us to get anti-BNP leaflets and tabloids to distribute in your own area, and get posters to put around your workplace, campus, or community.
